What is Texas ASA?

The Texas Amateur Softball Association is incorporated under the laws of the State of Texas as a non-profit organization whose objectives are to promote organized amateur softball in the State of Texas for all persons regardless of race, color, creed, religion, sex, national origin, or ancestry; to establish uniform softball rules and regulations that can be observed by all members; to educate and train in the proper skills of amateur softball play and rules by promoting, organizing, and conducting clinics, seminars, and training courses.

Texas ASA is the area of Texas not located in the geographic area of Dallas, Ft. Worth, San Antonio, and Houston. These are called "metro" areas and each has its own ASA organization that is responsible for the ASA operation in that metro to the Amateur Softball Association of America.

Tournaments

Texas ASA offers state tournaments for women, men, women's church, men's church, co-ed, and industrial, in both slow pitch and fast pitch and for all ages of youth. Teams qualify for these tournaments by participating in various leagues, district tournaments, and qualifiers. The champions in the various state tournaments may advance to the ASA National Tournament for their class of play. Teams that finish second through fifth place usually advance to a regional tournament where they have yet another opportunity to secure a berth in the ASA National Tournament for their particular class of play.

Organization

Texas ASA is divided into "districts" and each district has a District Commissioner that is total responsible for the district assigned to them. Each of these District Commissioners may in turn appoint others, Deputy District Commissioners, District Youth Commissioners, District Umpire-in-Chiefs, etc, to assist them in administering the Texas ASA programs.

Texas ASA is comprised of a State Commissioner, President,  State Youth Commissioner, State Umpire-in-Chief, State Intramural Commissioner, and At-Large Player Representatives. The majority of these people make up the Texas ASA Executive Committee. Voting members of Texas ASA consists of District Commissioners, Deputy District Commissioners, and District Youth Commissioners. Texas ASA conducts  state wide meetings every February and October. During these meetings the voting members establish rules, guidelines, bid and award state tournaments, and conduct any business that needs to be handled. The February meeting is dedicated to training ourselves to operate our program more efficiently.
